In the past, the usual remedies for unwanted hair were plucking, shaving or chemical depilatories. Some are painful, some are messy, and all are only temporary.  For long-term hair removal, electrolysis was the most popular but can be painful and slow.  Hair by hair, an electric current passes through a needle to destroy the ability to grow.  It typically takes months or even years of regular visits even for small areas like the upper lip.  Risks included electric shock, infections, and pitting or scarring. Now, there is a more effective solution this is quick, affordable and effective.

The LightSheer XC has a unique, special “long-pulse” mode.  This feature allows the laser energy to be delivered more slowly, giving a greater degree of protection to skin with larger concentrations of melanin (Types 4-6: African-American, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, Indian subcontinent, Asian, etc.)  This feature also allows laser use on people with suntanned skin!  In clinical studies, this long pulse feature allowed effective hair removal to be an option for EVERYONE, not only light-skinned, dark-haired individuals as is the case for many other laser systems.

Laser Hair Removal Procedure

The LightSheer XC produces a beam of highly concentrated light energy.  The melanin pigment located in the hair follicles absorbs the color of the light sheer laser.  The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling several follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede regrowth.  Importantly, the ChillTip, a special contact-cooling hand piece allows laser energy to be directed to the hair root while protecting and cooling the surrounding skin for a greater degree of efficacy and comfort.

The procedure does require multiple treatments for each area treated.  The treatment is offered in the doctor’s office and requires no down time.  Patients may experience some redness following treatment, which resolves within the first day or two.  Patients may resume normal activities immediately following treatment.

Recovery from Laser Hair Removal

Discomfort during treatment is minimal due simultaneous use of the Zimmer Cryo system.  Like any laser treatment, the skin may feel warm and appear pink/red for a couple of hours after treatment.  Normal activity may be resumed almost immediately prior treatment.  Hair will continue to grow after procedure.  Within one to two weeks one will notice a dramatic reduction in hair.
