Thermage Skin Tightening

Thermage (Thermacool TC system)
The Thermage procedure was developed to help the signs of aging skin. The procedure works by tightening skin tissue and is currently used for treating periorbital (around the eye) and facial wrinkles. The Thermage procedure is also known as ThermaLift, Thermal Lifting, Therma Plasty, and Thermoplastic contouring. The Thermage technology is being studied for other aesthetic uses on the face.

Collagen is one of the main components of skin and endows volume and supple texture. With time, sun exposure and genetic predisposition, the skin can lose collagen and develop wrinkles, fine lines and sag. Common treatments for rejuvenating the skin for collagen loss include replacement of collagen loss with tissue fillers (Collagen, Restylane, Radiesse), stimulation of collagen (chemical peels, CO2 laser) or surgical tightening and repositioning of the skin (Facelift, Endoscopic Browlift). Thermage adds another tool into our armentarium to rejuvenated the aging face.

Thermage uses radiofrequency (RF) energy uniformly heats the dermis (deep skin containing collagen) while cooling and protecting the epidermis (outer skin that one can touch). It is designed to cause immediate collagen contraction followed by new collagen production which occurs over a period of time. This results in tightening of the skin with resultant reduction of sagging, and elimination of fine lines and wrinkles. The Thermage procedure is the only non-invasive method to tighten loose skin. The "TC" in Thermacool TC stands for "Tissue Contraction"

Procedure
Each time treatment is delivered there is an immediate cool sensation, followed by a brief hot sensation, followed by a cool sensation. An anesthetic cream applied one hour before the procedure numbs the surface of the skin to help make the treatment more comfortable. Dr. Sinha also offers additional pain reduction methods as necessary.

Recovery
You may return to your normal activities immediately, as there is usually no "downtime". Minimal redness is seen in some patients but it usually disappears shortly after treatment. Heat-related complications can occur but are uncommon. There is no special care needed after treatment. As a part of good skin care, sunscreen is recommended. In most patients, results appear gradually over 2-6 months, although some patients see an earlier response.
